Orthopedics: Importance, Types of Procedures Involved

Dentistry is a medical science speciality that deals with prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions related to the teeth and the oral cavity. It is not just restricted to dental care and dental surgery, but also involves the use of artificial material to support the tissues, jaw and teeth or to improve the appearance of the teeth.

Dental Implants and Dental Veneers

Dental implants and dental veneers are two such options used to fulfil different purposes. The former acts like an artificial root of a tooth on which a bridge or an artificial tooth is placed for natural support. The latter is a tooth-colored shell made of porcelain or other material used to improve the appearance (shape, color, length and size) of the existing teeth.Average cost of dental implants and veneers cost vary from one dental clinic to another. However, dental implant cost (including crown) is much greater than the cost of veneers.

Frenectomy

Frenectomy is another dentistry procedure, commonly performed by a pediatric dentist, to remove the frenulum in the mouth. It is a thin muscle tissue that connects the upper lip to the gum. This procedure is also performed in adults sometime by emergency dentist.

Dental Caps

Dental caps, also known as crowns, are another option to restore the shape, strength and size of the existing tooth. The tooth-shaped cap is also used to improve the appearance of the teeth. For people looking forward to a solution to stained or yellow teeth, teeth whitening is a dentistry procedure used to whiten the teeth and remove stains and yellowness. The dentist makes use of a whitening agent or a bleach to perform this procedure.
