Dubai is one of the major centres for medical tourism in the Middle East. Within a short period of time, the city has been able to increase its traffic of inbound medical tourists significantly through its incredible initiatives for patients from around the world.

The Dubai Health Authority announced its first medical tourism initiative back in 2012. However, many prerequisites for the establishment of a successful medical tourism sector in Dubai were already there long before the start of the initiative.

Dubai is connected with all the major countries in the world through direct flights. Medical tourists can easily approach the healthcare centres located within the Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), which is situated at a distance of just 10 minutes from Dubai’s international airport. DHCC is built over an area of 380,000'sq'metre.

The space within the DHCC has already been occupied by state'of'the'art healthcare providers, medical technology firms and educational institutes. DHCC is run by a medical team of more than 5000 professionals looking after more than 130 clinics.

The top hospitals in Dubai are equipped with state'of'the'art technology and machinery used for successful treatment of the patients. Thousands of people from around the world approach the best hospitals in Dubai and in DHCC for dental procedures, cosmetic surgery and infertility treatment.

The number of medical tourists that visited the DHCC for treatment in 2015 were at least 20 percent more than the number received by the city in 2013. Further improvement in the DHCC medical services is expected to boost medical tourist in Dubai in the near future.

The visa cost has been fairly reduced as per the new guidelines with a vision to significantly improve inbound medical tourism rates by 2020.
